University of Maryland University College has received three 2014 Awards of Excellence from the University Professional & Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) Mid-Atlantic Region. The honors for Outstanding Faculty member, Outstanding Continuing Education Student nominee, and Partnership were presented at UPCEA’s recent Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference in Newark, Delaware.
After a successful tenure as president of the five-campus University of Massachusetts system, Robert L. Caret will return to Maryland as chancellor of the University System of Maryland. James L. Shea, chairman of the USM Board of Regents, today announced the board’s appointment of Caret, effective July 1, 2015. Caret served as president of Towson University, one of USM’s 12 institutions, from 2003 to 2011.

Dr. Marie Cini, UMUC’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, has been recognized by the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) among its 2014 Class of Fellows for “exceptional professional excellence.” OLC—formerly the Sloan Consortium—announced the seven members of this year’s Class of Fellows at its annual conference this week in Orlando.
