ADELPHI, Md. (June 3, 2020)—The Center for Security Studies (CSS) at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) has awarded scholarships to three students through the Department of Defense (DoD) Cybersecurity Scholarship Program (CySP). The CySP program is sponsored by the DoD Chief Information Officer.

“This program supports the recruitment of new cyber talent with the Department of Defense workforce,” said Loyce Pailen, senior director of UMGC’s Center for Security Studies. “In addition to covering the full cost of tuition, course-required materials, required fees, and a stipend, scholarship recipients receive invaluable professional experience through employment with the Department of Defense upon graduation,” she added.

The 2020-2021 scholarship recipients are Olubusayo Ladelokun, JaLynn Middleton and Michael Tillini. Ladelokun and Tillini are graduate students. Both are pursuing a Master of Science in cybersecurity technology as well as working on CompTIA Security+ certification. Middleton, an undergraduate student, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in information systems management with a minor in human resource management.

Upon completion of their academic programs, and if all conditions are met, recipients will receive full-time conditional/permanent civilian positions in components of the DoD.

The Center for Security Studies, designated by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as a National Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity Education, is dedicated to providing educational resources, research activities, networking opportunities and career training opportunities for working adults pursuing security studies. The Center works with industry and government to meet the cybersecurity and homeland security needs of the United States.
