Works by artists from Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. are being featured as part of the Second Biennial Maryland Regional Juried Art Exhibition (BMRE), the opening exhibition for the newly renovated University of Maryland University College art galleries.
The BMRE runs from Sunday, November 3, through Sunday, January 26. The exhibit gives visitors an opportunity to view the new look of the university's galleries, including the Herman Maril Gallery, Seima Oppenheimer Gallery and Gladys Goldstein Gallery.
An opening reception for the BMRE exhibit is scheduled for Sunday, November 17, 2013, from 3 to 5 p.m. RSVP for the opening reception today!

Helen Zughaib
Veiled Secrets (2013, gouache and ink on board)
About the Artist Helen Zughaib was born in Beirut and lived mostly in the Middle East and Europe before coming to the U.S. to study art. She received her BFA from Syracuse University. Her work has been widely exhibited in galleries and museums in the U.S., Europe and Lebanon. Her paintings are included in many private and public collections, including in the White House, World Bank, Library of Congress and the American Embassy in Baghdad.

Sebastian Martorana

About the Artist Sebastian Martorana is a sculptor living and working in Baltimore, Md. He grew up in Manassas, Va., and received his BFA in illustration from Syracuse University, where he also studied sculpture, including a semester in Italy. After graduating, he became a full-time apprentice in a stone shop outside Washington, D.C., before coming to Baltimore to earn his MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art's Rinehart School of Sculpture.

Sy Wengrovitz
Soundgirl Pants (2012, basswood, steel hanger and cardboard labels)
About the Artist Sy Wengrovitz began sculpting in wood as a secondary career after retiring as an engineer for the federal government. He has received numerous awards, including a 2012 Strauss Fellowship from the Arts Council of Fairfax County and a Best-in-Show award at the Artscape 98 Festival of the Arts in Baltimore. His sculptures are in numerous public and private collections.
